Even on the morning of 9 November 1989, no one knew that the Berlin Wall would fall. Then a time began in which fantasy outpaced reality every day. While everything changed for everyone in the East at a breathtaking pace, almost nothing changed in the West.

30 years after the Peaceful Revolution, it's time to take stock: what exactly happened in the East? What ideas and hopes did people attach to the upheaval and German reunification? How did experiences at that time, which were traumatic for many, shape their attitudes toward democracy? The panel discusses hard facts and personal experiences and invites the audience to participate in the debate.

An event in cooperation with the Federal Foundation for the Study of Communist Dictatorship in East Germany, the Robert-Havemann-Gesellschaft, the taz and the Publishers C.H.Beck. The Robert-Havemann-Gesellschaft is supported by the Federal Commissioner for Culture and Media and the Berlin Commissioner for the Study of Communist Dictatorship in East Germany.
