Sasha Waltz & Guests

Großes Haus

In cooperation with Sasha Waltz & Guests, the Volksbühne Berlin is presenting, selected works from the company embedded in a multifaceted accompanying programme in April 2020. One high point in the programme is the revival of noBody, a choreographic work by Sasha Waltz: this third part of her highly-acclaimed Körper trilogy was last shown at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in 2008, that's where the piece celebrated its world premiere in 2002. Through numerous guest performances around the world, noBody reached a large international audience, for example, the Göteborg Ballet made the work part of its repertory in 2012.

noBody closes the circle of a three-part choreographic cycle about people and their bodies that Sasha Waltz had been working on continuously from 1999–2002. In the first part of Körper she investigated the anatomy and physique of humans, relating the dancers' bodies to architecture, science and history. S traces the origins of life, Eros and sensuality. noBody poses the question of the metaphysical existence of the human, focusing on the absence of the body as a theme and confronting the emotions that the realisation of our mortality releases in us. “What is a human beyond its body? What is the eternal within ourselves?” In noBody Waltz as choreographer, together with 25 dancers, tackles the challenge of making the non-physical, the spiritual, visible through the body.

Presented by Sasha Waltz & Guests in cooperation with Volksbühne Berlin.
