Scope Festival
with Peter Bjorn & John
20.10.

Concert

Within the context of the second edition of Scope Festival, the Volksbühne will host breezy Indiepop by Peter, Bjorn & John, rapturous arrangements by Sven Helbig & Forrklang Quarteett as well as Lubomyr Melnyks’ well-versed piano-playing.

Peter Bjorn and John probably created one of the most recognisable songs of the last twenty years with their hit ‚Young Folks’. But they are certainly no One-Hit-Wonder and have been refining their special, big , dancy, rock pop song formula in the seven albums since then. The three former school friends with a shared love and fascination for baroque pop songs from the 60s and the Stone Roses have now become a band comfortably nestled in amongst Lykke Li, Robyn and Co in the Swedish Pop music scene. On their current album, ,Breakin’ Point’, they are working with big producers such as Paul Epworth (Florence And The Machine, U2, Paul McCartney) and Emile Hayne (Lana Del Rey, FKA Twigs, Kanye West).

Scope Festival with Lubomyr Melnyk, Sven Helbig & Forrklang Quartett, Hania Rani

In between brass bands and the smoky, droning steelworks of his hometown Eisenhüttenstadt, Sven Helbig grew into a true connoisseur of both contemporary music and electronica, fusing the two. Following his studies in Dresden and creative periods in New York, he founded the Dresdner Sinfoniker together with Martin Rindt and worked with bands like Rammstein and the Pet Shop Boys and presented his most recent work in concert halls such as the Elb Philharmonic or the Barbican in London. On this weekend he will present his compositions alongside the Forrklang Quartett.

Lubomyr Melnyk is known as one of the fastest pianists in the world and has been working tirelessly since the early 70s, to create a sonic language and technique which he has named “continuous music”. His work now encompasses over 120 pieces, in which the notes and sounds flow into one another at 19,5 per second, like a long, tremendous stream of sound, often lifting the listener into trance-like, hypnotic realms.
