Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, Graham Nash, Lana Del Rey – the list of musicians Jonathan Wilson shared a stage- or collaborated with, could go on forever. The songwriter and producer from Los Angeles is not only full-blooded musician, but also a great networker, who refined albums by Father John Misty, Conor Oberst or Dawes in his studio in Echo Park. He also recently accompanied Pink Floyd legend Roger Waters on his tour with his latest album. Probably the only even more impressive feat are his solo undertakings: In the Spring Wilson released his third album “Rare Birds” with Bella Union where he combines influences ranging from current work to his early beginnings, somewhere between 4-Track recorder, musical church service and his youth in North Carolina. On his new songs, psychedelic folk flirts with rich 80s sounds. Artists like Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush appreciatively nodded at the production, and albums by Talk Talk and Arthur Russel were regularly sighted during the song writing weeks at his home studio. Ripened under the California sun, his creations have therefore moved away from his usual 70s sounds, transforming into radiant folkpop compositions, most probably edging Jonathan Wilson a little further towards Rock Olympia.
