Concert

Not even half a year ago, Baby Dee, accordion in tow, and accompanied by her nephew on the guitar, presented herself to a sold out Berghain; one that was in feverish expectation of Swans - perhaps one of the loudest band of recent music history. This certainly takes guts. But for someone who already collaborated on Antony and the Johnstons’ first album, has been the protégé of Current 93’s David Tibet, and boasts musicians like Will Oldham and Andrew WK on their own album, it isn’t as overwhelming as it sounds. Dee’s solo work is impressive. On six studio albums she primarily celebrated the stripped back sound of the piano, adding guitars, e-bass and other instrumentation to her output over the years. On her upcoming tour ‘Accordion, Piano and Organ’, she will be accompanied by Trembling Bells Drummer Alex Neilson, who already swung his drum sticks for the likes of Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Scott Fagan.
