‚Germany’s best football magazine’ claims Tagesspiegel newspaper and ‘the best football prose in the country” states Spiegel magazine. Both are referring to 11FREUNDE, the football culture magazine from Berlin. It has been enriching the local football scene since 2000, including reports and interviews that are a far cry from dry league tables and statistics. But above all, 11FREUNDE has an unrivalled sense of humour. At times dissecting Lothar Matthäus’s newest relationships, at others looking at the nature of the German footballer’s wife ranging from Angela Hässler to Claudia Effenberg. And at the end of the magazine there has always been a column by the boozy Günter Hetzer and his mates Delle and Waldi. Fast-paced and always up to speed, the two friendly football fanatics speak of phone calls with Lothar Matthäus, Sunday morning pints, ‘one-two’s’ and rainy excursions to Rostock. All this accompanied by turbulent films, interview bloopers on the side of the pitch and coaches picking their noses. And throughout it all they have, as the great theorist Andreas Möller once put it : ‘vom Feeling her ein gutes Gefühl’ (‘Gefühl’ is the German word for ‘feeling’ this would therefore translate as ‘a good feeling according to their feeling’).).

Jens Kirschneck, born 1966 in Minden. Journalist since the early 90s, at first with the weekly newspaper Bielefelder StadtBlatt and later for the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Frankfurter Rundschau and others. He also has longstanding experience as a ‘Lesebühnenautor’, a performance writer. Since 2005 part of 11FREUNDE in Berlin, as well as ’11 FREUNDE Lesereise’, ‘11 FRIENDS book tour’.

Philipp Köster, born 1972 in Bobingen near Augsburg. 1995 co-founder of the Arminia Bielefeld-Fanzine ‘At 3.30 the world was still in order’, Chief Editor for the football magazine 11FRIENDS. Occasionally worked as a columnist for Tagesspiegel newspaper, the online magazine Spiegel Online and the RBB-radio station Radio Eins. On 21 December 2010 Philipp Köster was named sport journalist of the year 2010 by Medium Magazine.
