Concert

Born in Los Angeles, of Costa Rican parents, Dorian Wood is a hypnotic presence, an emotional hurricane, eyes fixated slyly on the twists and twitches of a prejudiced society.

With an innate ability to weave genres together—from dark pop to Bulgarian folk music— his concerts will take you from moments of relentless tension —fingernails clenched deep into the armrests—to heartfelt weeping, to a culminating hysteria equal parts tears and laughter, as a collective embrace blossoms into deafening applause worthy of bringing any structure to its knees. Purest emotional therapy.

From music conservatories to L.A.'s gay bars, with an astounding versatility that has brought him to theatres, art galleries, music venues and festivals worldwide, Dorian has been shaping an exquisite discography that sees its latest totem in XALÁ (Atonal Industries, 2017), an album recorded in Vila-Real, Spain with national musicians (percussionist Marcos Junquera, and contrabassist Xavi Muñoz).

In a first for Dorian, the album is sung completely in his mother tongue. On XALÁ, Dorian rises like a demoralized angel armed with a megaphone, denouncing the inequalities of Otherness, consistently seducing us with a signature prose characteristic of his previous works.
