Klaus Theweleit: Buch der Königstöchter
Im Gespräch mit Julia Encke
main stage

In Buch der Königstöchter (Book of Kings’ Daughters), first published in 2013, Klaus Theweleit uses bold associations to sketch a pre-Homeric mytho-geography of colonial conquests of countries, societies and women, as well as their treatment in art and myths up into the age of pop culture. The earliest narratives of what we now call Greek mythology tell of man-gods who conduct politics – with women and daughters who are given away, stolen and raped; more precisely, about the women's bodies that ensure the colonizers' survival and spoils.
