Banda Internationale feat. Bernadette la Hengst
Wild at Brecht
main stage

The brass band Banda Internationale has been a force to be reckoned with in the Dresden music scene for 15 years now. In 2015 the troupe toured through camps for asylum seekers in Dresden to look for refugee musicians to join the band. Since then the brass section has been expanded with oud and cello, and with musicians from Syria and Iraq.

Together with agit-pop-chanteuse Bernadette la Hengst, Banda Internationale has turned their musical energies to Bertolt Brecht and his history of migration and seeking refuge after 1933. Brushing him with and against the grain – and changing out his cigar for a proper Shisha occasionally. On the Volksbühne's main stage they'll play both Brecht songs and their own pieces about fleeing and being displaced, with chutzpah and magical energy. In short: pop music against the right and international brass band music for everyone!
