GIRLS is the band from Zeitkratzer drummer Maurice de Martin and actress/performer Susanne Sachsse, with Dirk Dresselhaus, alias Schneider TM, and Hillary Jeffrey. At the same time GIRLS is also the reincarnation of the southern Bavarian “Internationalen Damen-Showband” founded in 1967 by Anny de Martin, Maurice de Martin's mother. The band broke up when Anny died in 1971, and was quickly forgotten. But this formation was, in fact, extraordinary in multiple ways: A band solely composed of female members that composed its own works was very rare at the time. Furthermore, they played an experimental music knitted out of loops and patterns beyond classic rock/pop song structures that is generally called Krautrock today, influencing an entire generation of musicians from David Bowie to Brian Eno. With a new line-up, Maurice de Martin catapults his family history into the present, re-interpreting his mother's legacy and work.
