Alex Wissel

Alex Wissel is an artist, born in Aschaffenburg, Germany in 1983. He lives and works in Düsseldorf and Munich.

From 2004 to 2010, he studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and the École Nationale des Beaux Arts Lyon. Wissel is the initiator of numerous community projects such as the Oktoberbar and the Single-Club. The latter allows artists to stage experimental parties and performances that unfold with the participation of the audience over the course of a year. Thanks to the dedication of all those involved, the space is redesigned for every new event. In the context of these events, numerous new art and music projects are established, making the Single-Club a unique stage for testing different formats and a catalyst for new bands and collectives.

Since 2011, Wissel has realised several cinematic projects together with director Jan Bonny, in which he also sometimes appears as an actor. For the past two years he has been collaborating with the visual artist Maximiliane Baumgartner on a publication and series of paintings about the NSU trials in Munich.

Among others, Alex Wissel’s work has been shown at: Ginerva Gambino, Cologne; Haus der Kunst, Munich (in cooperation with the Munich Film Festival); Produzentengalerie, Hamburg, Galerie der Bildenden Künste, Belgrade; Temporary Gallery, Cologne; Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach and in the Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf.
