Claude Régy

Frenchman Claude Régy, born 1923, counts as one of the most important European directors of modern theater. Since the sixties, he has concentrated on the material character of literary texts and the physical volume of language. His critique of language produces a wholly new theatrical form—an abstract and formally rigorous language-based theater. He thus opens up pieces by contemporary authors such as Marguerite Duras, Nathalie Sarraute, Harold Pinter, Botho Strauss, Jon Fosse, and Sarah Kane for audiences in the most congenial way.
