Max Pitegoff

Calla Henkel and Max Pitegoff are Berlin-based artists who work between a variety of media including theater, performance, photography and writing. Often starting with collaboration, their work investigates the types of rules and systems that build shared space. Over the last five years they have run several spaces in Berlin, including New Theater (2013-2015), a storefront in Kreuzberg where they wrote and produced plays with large groups of artists, writers and musicians.

Moving forward with a collaborative format of playwriting and staging, the artists will inhabit the Grüner Salon. Open to the public every week, it will function as bar and stage, presenting narrative and text driven pieces written in response to the conditions and community surrounding the space. Using different skills as modes of storytelling, actors will often be artists, writers, or members of the locality.

Henkel and Pitegoff aim to develop a permeable ensemble that will embody Grüner Salon, thus the opening season will focus on the contracting of relationships and the temporary formats of ensemble: as cast, as audience, as public and as institution.

In addition to a seasonal programme of original plays, the programme will also host weekly events. Organised at short notice, these allow the Grüner Salon to act as a site of response.
